In a pre-dawn raid, sleuths of Organised Crime Intelligence Unit arrested a 54-year-old man, suspected to be supplying explosives to Maoists in Odisha and seized huge quantity of explosive materials from his house at NGO Colony in Sattur in this Southern district of Tamil Nadu, today. On a tip off, the police team raided the house of Mohanraj and arrested him, police said. Preliminary investigations indicated Mohanraj could have links with Maoists and the police team found he was running a clandestine unit where he had illegally stocked highly inflammable chemicals to make explosives.
The police seized several kg of sulphur, aluminium powder, vinyl fluoride, fuse bundles and a machine to make fuses from his house.
He was later taken to Sattur Town Police Station where senior police officials, including state Intelligence sleuths are investigating.
Mohanraj claimed he was an agent supplying crackers to north India, police added.
