Twenty three fishermen of Jagathapatnam fishermen hamlet in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu who were taken into custody by the Sri Lankan Naval force last night near Neduntheevu off shore Jagathapatam, were freed by the Sri Lankan Government within a few hours. Official sources said the fishermen ventured into the sea in five boats early yesterday and were supposed to return to coast this morning. The fishermen were engaged in fishing in deep sea when the Sri Lankan Naval force surrounded them and took to Gangesanthurai Port in Sri Lanka along with the Indian fishermen boat. However, to the shock and surprise of the secured Indian fishermen, the Sri Lankan Government ordered the immediate release of the Indian fishermen, the sources added.
