Dhuri police today arrested the vice principal of the Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Bardwal, for allegedly beating up a eighth standard student, who has been admitted to civil hospital Dhuri on Tuesday night. The vice principal was arrested under preventive action by the Dhuri police and produced before SDM court, from where she was released on bail. The action was taken on the complaint of Harbans Singh a resident of Kaheru village, who had lodged a complaint with the Dhuri police against the vice principal of the Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Bardwal for allegedly beating up his Son Jaspinder Singh, class 8th student. Complainant said that the accused Naleena Kumari, who is also the vice principal of the school beat up his son black and blue with a stick without any mistake. However, the family members of Jaspinder were also alleging police inaction after their repeated visits to the police station and planned a protest in Dhuri, if the police failed to took action against the VP. Dhuri DSP, Krishan Kumar Panthey said, I had called them in my office on Wednesday evening but they did not turn up. On Thursday on the statement of the boy the police arrested (under preventive action) the Vice principal and produced her before the SDM’s court, from where she was released on bail He said that the action will be taken over medical report of the child and education department officials will also be informed for action as per the norms of the education department. When contacted Sangrur District Education Officer Nirmal Singh Sindhu said, though, as per the guidelines of Punjab education department the corporal punishment was totally banned in government school, and the teacher may face departmental action for violating the norms, but we don’t know that rule cover of the private schools or not.
