Shabir detained in Kashmir
Majority of the separatist leaders were either put under house arrest or detained in the summer capital, Srinagar, where hardliner Hurriyat Conference (HC) had asked people to organise peaceful demonstrations after Friday prayers against Israeli airstrikes in Gaza which has claimed more than 220 lives. Hardliner Hurriyat spokesperson Aiyaz Akbar said Syed Ali Shah Geelani remained under house arrest since his return from New Delhi on April 16. Hurriyat leader Mohammad Ashraf Sehrayee was also placed under house arrest since last evening, he said. Anantnag district president of Hurriyat Mir Hafizullah was arrested today, he added. A Democratic Freedom Party spokesperson said party chairman Shabir Ahamd Shah was arrested at Hyderpora bypass on the city outskirts when he was on way to address a public gathering in Kulgam district. Shah was also scheduled to lead a protest rally against Gaza killings after Friday prayers there.
