A 22-year-old wagabond from Nadinaka area in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi in Thane district, who unsuccessfully tried to rob the idol from the temple of Lord Dattatreya, has been arrested, police said.    Nizampura police station PSI VB Virnak told UNI that at 1300 hrs, the complainant one Amol Subash Ghatke, 22, returned home for lunch. His residence is opposite the temple and he spotted the accused (name withheld for specific reasons) shaking and trying to pluck out the idol from its pedestal in the temple.    The accused could not pull out the idol, and in the meantime Ghatke raised an alarm. In a bid to get away, the accused fell and hit his head when locals in the vicinity caught him and handed him over to the Nizampura police.    ‘The arrested accused already has an offence registered against him with the Bhiwandi police, and we are also trying to find out his criminal record,’ Virnak said.    The injured accused is hospitalised and is being treated. He has been charged under sections 379 and 511 of the IPC, she added.
