Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Keshari Nath Tripathi would be sworn in as new West Bengal Governor on July 24, official sources today said. Mr Tripathi, accompanied by his wife, would arrive here from Allahabad on July 23. Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Asim Kumar Banerjee would administer the oath of office to him at the swearing-in ceremony at the Raj Bhavan, the sources said. Earlier, Ms Banerjee welcomed Mr Tripathi as the state Governor. We welcome the new Governor. I had a talk with him over phone. We will meet next week, the chief minister, now in North Bengal said. President Pranab Mukherjee appointed Mr Tripathi as Bengal Governor on July 14. Eighty-year-old Tripathi will be the 27th Governor of West Bengal. He will succeed Bihar Governor Dr D Y Patil who was sworn in as acting Governor of the state on July 4 following resignation of M K Narayanan on June 30, three days after the CBI questioned him on Augusta Westland helicopter purchase in 2010.
