The ongoing electrification work on the Shoranur-Mangalore section will be completed by March 2016, while the first phase of work on the Shoranur-Kozhikode stretch is almost complete, said Mr Udayakumar R P Chief Project Manager, Southern Railway, Chennai.
Talking to newsmen after inaugurating the new office of the Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer, Railway Electrification(RE) at Kannur here today, Mr Udayakumar said the works for electrification will be under two groups, for which two Deputy Chief Engineers are appointed to monitor the work. He said the total cost of the work would be Rs 360 crore. He said expected that the electrification works would be completed between Kozhikode and Kannur by June 2015 and in Kannur Kasargode stretch by December 2015 and Kasargode to Mangalore section at March 2016. All these works are in progress. Mr Udayakumar said the power will be provided from Shoranur tracking power station and the department will establish a sub- station at Tirur between the Shoranur- Kozhikode stretch. To set up this sub station at Tirur in Malappuram district land was needed and the State government is taking steps for this. He said Six 110 KV tracking sub station will be set up between Kozhikode and Mangalore at Elathur, Thalassery, Kannur South, Cheravuthur, Uppala and Tumkur. The power from them will be provided by Kerala and Karnataka states.
