Five people have been arrested by Special Cell with 43 illegal pistols in Delhi, police said today. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, the two accused Khilafat Ali and Dinesh Gawane were arrested on July 12 from Anand Vihar area here, while Devendra and Dharmendra from Uttar Pradesh were held on July 18 from Dhaula Kuan area in Delhi. A total of 30 pistols have been recovered from them. During interrogation, they told police that the weapons were being smuggled from Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone, Barwani and Khandwa areas to Delhi. Another peddler, Arun was arrested from Sarai Kale Khan area on July 19. Police have recovered 13 pistols from Arun. The recovery of 43 sophisticated pistols, within a week’s duration, which had found their way into Delhi from their manufacturing bases along the Madhya PradeshMaharashtra border, is a serious indicator that the charm for these illicit firearms is still strong amongst the criminal elements of Delhi NCR and sustained, coordinated efforts of all concerned agencies are required to curb this menace. Authorities in the concerned States are being intimated about the case and further investigation is in progress, Mr Yadav added.
