Southern Air Command celebrates 30th anniversary

The Southern Air Command (SAC) today completed 30 years of its glorious existence as fifth operational command of the Indian Air Force. To mark the occasion, an year long celebration has been planned and various events will be organized including Sarang helicopter display, sky diving by Akash Ganga team, fly past by different aircraft, performance by Air Warriors Drill Team (AWDT), combat skill display by Air Force commandos (Garud), community lunch and a commanders’ conclave, a defence press release said. The curtain raiser for the celebrations was an entertainment evening organized at SAC headquarters, yesterday. The roles and capabilities of Southern Air Command have multiplied since inception. From a humble beginning in the year 1984, Southern Air Command today has grown into an operationally potent and strategically poised component of the Indian Air Force. These celebrations would mark the beginning of a new chapter of transition of Southern Air Command towards a fully operational command of the Indian Air Force. The various events would showcase the air power and operational preparedness of Southern Air Command
