The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has announced that the work on two dream bridges at Middle Strait and Humphry Strait of Middle Andaman will commence from January 2015. If constructed, Middle Strait and Humphry Strait bridges will complete the Andaman Trunk Road, which presently has two breaks at Middle Strait and Humphry Strait, where vehicles and public have to take a vehicle-ferry. Andaman Trunk Road, which connects Port Blair with North and Middle Andaman is the life line of A and N Islands and since last several decades people have been demanding for these two bridges. According to A and N Administration, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Mr Nitin Gadkari has agreed to lay foundation stone for above two bridges during January 2015 and has also assured all helps and assistance in this regard. A delegation of A and N Administration, consisting of the Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray, Chief Secretary of A and N Administration Anand Prakash and Chief Engineer of APWD were present during meeting with the Union Minister. As informed by DG, all preliminaries regarding construction of two bridges will be completed by August-September 2014 and tender will be invited. In all probability, work on bridges and first package will start during early 2015, an official release of A and N Administration said here today.
