Perumbavoor-based Concept Engineering will market ‘Sand Guru’ rock and sand separator developed by students of an engineering college at Moovattupuzha in Kerala. Talking to reporters here Concept Engineering Managing Director O M Joy said the device developed by Mathews Sebastian, Mahim K M and Aboobacker Abin of Illahia Engineering College will separate sand for plastering and concrete works benefiting construction industry. Titled Sand Guru, the new device can be fixed to classifiers which removes the clay content in rock sand and separates it into two grades. The classifiers which are being currently used can wash the sand and convert it into single size grain only, he said adding then it will be manually filtered and used separately for plastering and concreting jobs. The new Sand Separator which cleans the rock sand and brings out sand separately for plastering and concreting enhancing the quality of the rock sand and also saves time and money for the user. ‘We are getting good response from the market for the machine, developed by continuous efforts and research by the students,’ he said. The students are also in the process of modifying ‘Sand making Impactor,’ machine, he said. At present, in ordinary impactors, sand and metal is crushed to form rock sand. But in the modified machine, stones are crushed together to produce rock sand.
