The reigning superstar of Bengali films Dev (Deepak Adhikari) and veteran Bollywood actress Moushumi Chatterjee will receive the Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Samman instituted by the state government, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced last night. Dev is an All India Trinamool Congress( AITC) MP from Ghatal in West Midnapur district. Among his hits are ‘Chaander Pahar’. Moushumi Chatterjee, who shot to fame in the 1967 Bengali hit ‘Balika Badhu’, made her presence felt in Bollywood ventures like ‘Anuraag’ and ‘Roti Kapada Aur Makaan’.
Both have been chosen for their ‘outstanding contribution to cinema’.
‘Dev and Moushumi Chatterjee will receive Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Samman 2014,’ Ms Banerjee announced in her social networking page. In the memory of the legendary Uttam Kumar the state government had instituted awards to honour the regional film industry since 2012.
This year too, eminent personalities are being honoured with the award for their outstanding contributions to cinema in a programme to be held at Nazrul Mancha tomorrow to mark the 34th death anniversary of the legendary actor.
