Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said steps will be taken to strengthen higher education sector in the state.
In a press release here, he said ‘though we could achieve a lot in the public education sector we failed to excel in the higher education sector.’ Institutions alone cannot be blamed for this situation. Many are going outside the state and even the country for pursuing higher studies as such institutions are very few in the state. It is a challenge for the government to provide all facilities in the higher education sector. We should be able to utilize our man power to the maximum. Opportunities should be provided for the higher education sector to grow. More value based education and such institutions should come up in the state. ‘It is for this reason that the Government has decided to give autonomous status to colleges. If this move is found successful, more institutions will be granted autonomous status, he added.
