The Kerala Government has directed SupplyCo, Consumer Fed and Horticorp to effectively intervene in the market to check price rise during Ramzan-Onam festival season.
Aiming to regulate market price of essential commodities during Onam festival season, Ramzan-Onam Metro People’s Bazar was opened in the city, a press release said. As part of market intervention, the Government has decided to start Onam-Ramzan fairs and Maveli Stores at Taluk and Panchayat levels respectively, with the cooperation of Supplyco, Consumer Fed and Horticorp.
It said 58 metro fairs have been started including Sypplyco Ramzan fair out of which metro fair will be extended till Onam. As a second stage, fairs will be conducted at district levels from August 13. Supplyco will conduct 1500 Onam fairs.
BPL kits will be distributed during Onam. Decision regarding introduction of new items in kits will be taken after discussions. Supplyco, Consumerfed and Horticorp have demanded Rs 120 crore, Rs 60 crore and 20 crore respectively for market intervention.
