The West Bengal government has scrapped-’Beautiful Bengal,’ the propaganda documentary with Bollywood badshah Shah Rukh Khan, also the state’s brand ambassador, and a new documentary with former Indian footbal captain Bhaichung Bhutia and Bengali film and television actors is coming up. According to Nabanna sources, another documentary on the Kanyashree project was also on the anvil. Mr Bhutia, who contested from Darjeeling constituency on Trinamool ticket in the Lok Sabha election, would feature in both the documentaries, the sources said adding a popular actor from the Bengali television would also take part in the film on Kanyashree. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has received feedback that the film featuring Shah Rukh Khan had not made much impact on the people of the state, especially those living in rural areas for whom the Bengali cinema and tv stars are much dearer than their counterparts in Bollywood, a state government official said. Perhaps this might have prompted the chief minister to replace the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, the official maintained. The documentary with Shah Rukh Khan was made after the Mamata Banerjee government came to power in the state in May 2011. Earlier, a similar documentary was made by the-then Narendra Modi led Gujarat government where Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, also Gujarat’s brand anbassador, featured.
