Tamil Nadu Special Investigation Unit (SIU) have arrested an accused 16-years after the Coimbatore Serial Bomb blasts of 1998, in Kerala. Police said the accused S Kunju Mohammed alias Kunhi Mohammed (58) was arrested in Pananganagar near Malappuram in neighbouring Kerala. He was wanted in the case for transporting the explosives for setting off the for blasts. He was absconding and the police was in search of him. He was charged under section 120(B) Criminal conspiracy. After inquiry he was remanded to judicial custody. It may be recalled that the serial bomb blasts occurred in the city on February 14, 1998 when senior BJP leader L K Advani visited the city for Lok Sabha election campaign. Of the total 181 accused in the case, 178 had been arrested so far. Eight of the accused died during different stages of the trail.
A search was on for three other accused and verdict in the case had been pronounced for others. The blasts claimed 58 lives while over 250 perons were injured, police added.
