Tamil Nadu Chief Minister JJayalalithaa whose government has been focussing on development of sports and sportspersons hailing from the state today hailed the achievement of Chennaibased women squash duo of Joshna Chinnapa and Deepika Pallikal who bagged the first Gold medal for India in the Commonwealth Games squash competition. Hailing their victory in the final at Glasgow in Scotland, the Chief Minister announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh each to Deepika and Joshna, both former national champions. . Expressing her delight , she said ‘ as you are aware, I had announced the enhancement of financial reward for sportspersons winning a Commonwealth Gold Medal to Rs. 50 lakhs. You will now be eligible to receive this cash incentive. ‘ ‘I congratulate you and all those who have contributed to your success and wish you many more such laurels on behalf the country and Tamil Nadu in future’, Ms Jayalalithaa said in a statement here announcing the financial reward to Deepika and Joshna.. ‘I was delighted to learn of one more triumph in your illustrious sporting career, a Gold Medal in the Squash Women’s Doubles event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2014, being held at Glasgow, Scotland. I understand this is the first time that India has won a Commonwealth Games Gold Medal in squash. Yet again, you have done both the Nation and State of Tamil Nadu proud ‘, she sadi congratulated both on behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu on your splendid achievement.
