Growing crime against women and children and other issues would be deliberated in detail in Kerala Women Protect Meet beginning here on August 8. Talking to reporters here, activists Adv Victor Antony Noon and Mini K Philip said delegates’ and public meet, seminar on Women Security: Challenges and Remedial Measures, street play, exhibition and musical concert would be held as part of the twoday event. Stating women in the country faced challenges as far as their security was concerned, they said the situation was worse in Kerala where kids to elderly women were assaulted but no stringent action was taken to contain the menace. The demands included prevent growing crimes against women and children, ensure stringent punishment to culprits, implementation of Justice Verma Commission report, ban obscene websites, cinemas, ads and other related programmes, impart judo, karate training to girls to school and college level, among others, they said. Noted writers Dr Khatija Mumtaz, Kalpetta Narayanan, Thrissur Additional District Judge Cheriyan Kuriakose, Kozhikode Sub Judge R L Baiju, Dr D Surendranath, Dr V Venugopal, Meloor Vasudevan, Dr Vincent Maliyekkal, among others, would participate, they said. Well Known social activist Daya Bai, working for the upliftment of tribals in central India, would inaugurate the event, they said adding Stree Shakti exhibition would be opened by Kanchanamala.
