An Indian national was killed in a bomb explosion in Libyan capital Tripoli even as the government said efforts were being made to evacuate Indians from that country in view of the worsening situation there. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed in the Rajya Sabha today that the Indian national, Daniel Solomon from Kerala, was killed when he was hit by splinters after a bomb explosion in Tripoli yesterday. The Minister said the government was trying to bring back his mortal remains. Referring to the evacuation of Indian nationals from Libya, the Minister said they were being brought from Benghazi to Malta by ferry and airlifted from Malta. So far, 98 nurses had been brought out. She said 70 field coordinators had been deputed and Indian embassy was still functioning even as the US, the UK, Tunisia and France had closed their missions there.
