SFI activists held for waving black flag to Minister

As many as nine activists of the proCPI (M) Student Federation of India were arrested for waving black flag to Kerala Education Minister P K Abdu Rubb in the city today. Police said Ajay, Mohammed Masood, Akshay, Vijith, Nijil Lal, Fahad Khan, Nijesh, Jijesh and Neenu were held for jumping before the official of the Minister on Cherooty Road in the city. The activists, shouting slogans, were demanding resignation of Mr Rubb in connection with the alleged misappropriation in the allocation of plus two (12th class) batches in the State. They were later released on bail, police added.

In a related development, a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) protest march to Kozhikode Collectorate, demanding the resignation of Kerala Education Minister P K Abdu Rubb, turned violent today. Police said slogan shouting activities attempting to enter the civil station by breaking the police cordon turned violent this morning. Security forces had to use water canon to disperse the crowd, they said. The march was inaugurated by Morcha State President K P Prakash Babu.
