Tantuja, the West Bengal Government Undertaking which sells cotton products and Bengali tant sarees under the Biswa Bangla Brand, will now use designs handpicked by state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The new collection of these sarees will be available before the Pujas. The officials of Tantuja’s Design Facilitated Centre will meet the chief minister with a handful of designs from where she may choose a few or suggest changes and retouch a few, the official sources here said. Tantuja which was almost on the verge of being shut down due to heavy losses to the tune of Rs 14.6 crore, was revived by the chief minister. Last year it made a profit of Rs 19.17 lakh. The organisation has now bagged two deals from Kerala and Japan. The Kerala Government’s ‘Hanvig’ has given an order worth Rs 3.5 crore to Tantuja. The state Govt Undertaking is also on the verge of making a breakthrough in exporting its products to several countries in the MiddleEast.
