MDMK asks for total prohibition in Tamilnadu

The Marumalarchi DMK on Monday asked the Tami Nadu Government to implment total prohibition in the State from October two, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This was one of the resolutions passed at the party’s open conference held here on the occasion of Periyar’s birth anniversary.
The resolution pointed to the evils of cosuming liquor and asked the State Government to follow the example of Kerala which has announced the implementation of total prohibition from October two.
The policy will be implemented over a period of then years by which time Kerala will be a liquor-free state. Another resolution asked the Modi Government at the Centre to take all steps to facilitate the release of 78 Tamil fishermen languishing in Lankan prisons and also the 72 fishing boats seized by them.
