Trial pumping of Japan-aided drinking water project in Kozhikode district of Kerala will be conducted next month, Panchayat and Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer today said.
Addressing Corporation Councillors hailing from Kozhikode South Assembly constituency represented by him at a meet in Thiruvanthapuram, he said with the commissioning of the project water would be supplied round the clock, according to a release here.
He said new water connection would also be provided to the needy.
With this, water supply in the district would be enhanced to 2600 lakh litre (MLD) from the existing 600 litre (MLD), Water Resources Additional Chief Secretary V J Kurien said. The department proposed to liberalize terms and conditions for new connections, he added.
Kozhikode Mayor Prof A K Premajam, KURDFC Chairman K Moideen Koya, Councillors K T Beeran Koyua, Adv A V Anwar, T P Koya Moideen, K P Abdulla Koya, Kavitha Arun and Ayishabi Pandikashala, among others, attended.
About 1.3 million people in Kozhikode Corporation, Balussery, Nanmanda, Kakkoor, Kakkodi, Chelannur, Narikkuni, Kunnnamangalam, Kuruvattoor, Peruvayal, Perumanna, Kadalundi, Olavanna, and Thalakulathur grama panchayats would be beneficiaries of the scheme.
