Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today met visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping in New Delhi.
The meeting of Ms Gandhi with the Chinese President is her first with a foreign dignitary after the Lok Sabha elections in which the Congress was voted in the opposition.
Ms Gandhi, who was accompanied by senior leaders of the party, met the Chinese President at Taj Palace hotel, where he is staying.
Meanwhile, the Chinese President invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit his country at an early date. Mr Modi accepted the invitation and promised to visit Beijing soon.
Both the sides have decided to strengthen political exchanges and deepen strategic trust as well as intensify political dialogue and consultations at all levels, a joint statement issued on the culminations of Mr Xi’s visit said.
