The last date for submitting applications for the GATE-2015 examination has been extended by two weeks till October 14, it was officially announced today.
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, the organising institute for GATE-2015, took the decision following appeals from a large number of applicants and candidates for GATE 2015 from Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas to Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Zubin Irani seeking extension in the deadline.
Candidates can now submit the GATE 2015 application on-line till October 14.
Drawing attention to their plight in the wake of devastating floods in these areas, they appealed to the Minister for extension apprehending that they would not be able to submit certificates from the College Principal and application fees through banks.
Responding to their appeal, the ministry intervened asking IIT Kanpur to consider requests made by applicants from Jammu and Kashmir. The deadline for submission of application with supporting document and bank challan was September 30. Considering the situation, the GATE Board decided to make Oct 14 the last date for submission of GATE 2015 application.
A notification to this effect has been put on the GATE website (http://gate.iitk.ac.in/GATE2015/#)
The GATE score is used for admissions to post-graduate programs (e.g., M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies. The score may also be used by Public and Private Sector Undertakings for employment screening purposes, a press note said.
