One man died after self immolation and another consuming pesticide
A school girl allegedly attempted self immolation dejected over the Karnataka Special Court’s verdict convicting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha in the disproportionate assets case.
The girl attempted self immolation at her house in Vangi Narayanapuram locality at Elumalai near Madurai today. Police said M Nagalakshmi, a Plus Two student of Government Higher Secondary School was in a state of depression after the special court verdict and subsequent arrest of Ms.Jayalalitha.
The girl doused with kerosene and set herself afire, when her parents were away from home. She was admitted to the Special Burns Ward at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), where her condition was stated to be critical as she suffered nearly 80 percent burns.
Meanwhile, an ardent AIADMK worker Subramanian (70), who consumed pesticide after hearing the special court verdict in his house at A Kalapur village near Singampunari in neighbouring Sivaganga district last night, died at the GRH in Madurai today.
Subramanian, a retired driver of Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation was upset with the court verdict, his family members said.
An AIADMK activist, who had immolated himself in Virugambakkam yesterday following conviction of the party supremo J Jayalalithaa, died early today.
According to police, the activist, Venkatesan (45) of Alwarthirunagar, had suffered 80 per cent burn and was admitted to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. Venkatesu reportedly was distressed over conviction of his party leader.
