Kerala, described as ‘God’s own country’, is chalking out an aggressive plan to promote yet another novel tourist attraction, the ‘Wedding Tourism’ in a big way, particularly to attract domestic sector. ‘We have good potential in ‘Wedding Tourism’ as we have lot of ideal romantic locations, like beaches, backwaters, resorts and above all the rich tradition and in the coming days the state would be a hot destination for marriages.’ Kerala Tourism Secretary Suman Billa said.
‘The Kerala government had already conducted a road show in Delhi recently, to tap the potential that we have. We had taken the stake holders from Kerala to have dialogue with the wedding planners there,’ he said and claimed that there were good response after the road show.
Pointing out that need for making facilitation to get attract people from other states to choose the state as the hot destination for wedding, Mr Billa said that the government was planing to organise more strong methods, including new brochures and other things to project the facilities that provided by the state to tap the potential.
Regarding attracting foreign tourists ‘this comes only 30 per cent, as Indian are spending Billa said wedding and the scope for domestic wedding is very high and the effort of the government should be to tap this potential.’ ‘While compared with foreigners, Indian people don’t bother about money, as they are spending huge money with inviting large number of guests,’ he said adding that the government was planning to canvass this huge potential by promoting it with projecting the facilities before them and certainly the result would be very positive in the coming years.
However, it was not an easy effort, as the government should provide facilities, he said citing an example of flowers, the flowers for marriages are flying from Thailand and only people from Bengal could make it garlands. So the government should coordinate all these under one umbrella, then only the government could exploit the vast potential in a big way.
The Recent concluded Kerala Travel Mart (KTM), jointly organised by the government and the tourism industry, had given more thrust on wedding tourism and according to those who were take part in the KTM in this sector said that reasonable enquirers from across India and abroad evident to promote Kerala as a destination to organise dream weddings.
