Congress Party in Kerala asked its party MP Shashi Tharoor, representing the Lok Sabha constituency Thiruvananthapuram, to stop praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who invited Tharoor to join Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan project.
Addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, KPCC Vice President M M Hassan said the MP’s statement was against the party as Mr Tharoor said that he was honoured to accept the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to join Clean India campaign. The party will take the issue very seriously, he added. Meanwhile, KPCC General Secretary M Liju said the party would take up the matter with Congress High Command and the State leadership.
‘By joining the campaign, Mr Tharoor is becoming a part of the communal agenda of the BJP. His stand is against the Congress party. He should have followed a stand taken by film star Kamal Hassan on the issue,’ he added.
Denying the Congress allegation, MrTharoor tweeted that ‘Astonished by charges I’m pro BJP. My 30 year paper trail of published writings my idea of India and my profound belief in India’s pluralism. ‘Being receptive to specific statements or actions of BJP leaders does not remotely imply acceptance of the party’s core Hindutva agenda. ‘Such comments ignore my extensive criticisms of BJP government, which are all a matter of record and which far outweigh positive points.’
