A Special Court today convicted nine persons in the Shaid Bava murder case at Kodiyathur in Kozhikode district of Kerala more than two-and-a-half years ago.
The Special Additional District Sessions Court (Marad cases) at Eranhipalam convicted them after finding them guilty of killing Bava in November, 2011.
Five persons out of the 14 accused were acquitted as the prosecution had failed to prove charges against them.
One accused in the case was absconding. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced tomorrow, the court said.
According to the prosecution a group of youth, acting as ‘moral police’ beaten up Bava (27), who went to meet a woman at Kodiyathur on the night of November 9, 2011 for allegedly having an affair with her.
Bava, who sustained grievous injuries succumbed in a hospital on November 13.
