Two Tamil Nadu women were killed and three others injured when a goods auto rickshaw collided with a National permit lorry at Pallikunnu NH 17, about two km from here in early hours today.
According to the police, the deceased were identified as Hamsayya alias Chinnu pennu (40) and Sumathi (35). Seriously injured Chandrakala (45), Sathyavathi (28) and auto driver Haneefa (30) were admitted at a private hospital in Kannur.
All the four women hailed from Tamil Nadu and worked at Kannur as fish vendors. They were traveling in a goods auto rickshaw ,which was proceeding to Ayikkara fish market near Kannur from Puthiyatheruvu.
Locals rushed all the auto passengers to a nearby private hospital and both women died at hospital. Police said the driver of the lorry fled away from the accident spot and police had taken the custody of lorry. The body would be shifted to Pariyaram medical college hospital (PMCH) for autopsy.
