Three Sri Lankan refugees, an agent and a car driver have been arrested during vehicle checking at pioneer check post in Ramanathapuram today.
Police said the refugees had planned to go to Australia along with some others and had come with the agent to arrange for an ideal location for escaping.
The refugees were staying in different camps in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
They had taken the help of the agent for engaging a ferry and were on the way to Rameswaram to find a location for arranging a ferry to take them to Australia when they were arrested here.
Police seized from them an air gun and country weapons from them.
