Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung today announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the family of Jagbir Singh, the police constable who was shot dead while on duty here.
The Delhi Police constable was killed after being shot at by four burglars in Rohini’s Vijay Vihar area in Delhi on October 13.
Mourning the loss of the Delhi Police constable, Najeeb Jung said, I pay tribute to the departed soul, who laid down his life, while serving our Nation. May his family bear the loss with strength and fortitude.
Jagbir was patrolling in the area along with his collegue Narendra when they saw three men travelling in an autorickshaw.
As they tried to stop and question them after finding their activities suspicious, the assailants opened fired at the constables.
The bullet hit constable Jagbir on the chest and Narendra on the back. While Jagbir succumbed to his injuries on the spot, Narendra was critically injured and rushed to a city hospital.
Police has arrested two men in this regard so far.
