As the assembly voting ended yesterday and all the opinion polls have indicated that Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) will emerge as number one, with its former ally Shiv Sena at second position, Congress third and NCP fourth; the bitterness between Sena-BJP is ending with the hope that if needed BJP may go back to its former ally.
The last nail in their bitterness was the editorial in saamna in which Shiv Sena criticised BJP and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi and calling BJP as main opponent.
This editorial was taken seriously by BJP and union surface transport minister Nitin Gadkari immediately stated that if Shiv Sena can’t respect Modi at least it should not insult.    But yesterday’s morning’s bitterness started ending in the evening as shiv sena party Chief Uddhav Thackeray said  he respects prime minister.    In the evening, shiv sena spokesperson Shweta Parulekar regretted over the language used in Saamna about Mr modi in a TV debate.
State BJP president Devendra Phadanvis ruled out any alliance with NCP, in conversation with the same TV channel.    He said the BJP followed a rule of not criticising its 25 year old ally but Sena violated it; and bjp will never forget this.
In the same breathe ; Mr phadanvis said he does not consider shiv sena as an opponent .    Shiv sena BJP contested eight look sabha and five assemblies together and ruled Maharashtra for five years.
All the poll surveys have shown that BJP will be in the range of 125 to 151 in the house of 288 with its former ally shiv sena getting 60 to 77 seats and the chances of becoming leader of the  opposition.
The surveys indicated that congress NCP; which ruled Maharashtra for 15 years since 1999 will be at number third and number fourth position respectively.    Congress is expected to get 28 to 40 seats while ncp 25 to 35. Both the parties may get chunk of their seats from sugar belt of wester Maharashtra.
To be able to become leader of the opposition; the ncp; which got separated from Congress in 1999 may have to merge with its parent party. According to political situation, this may help Congress in getting leader of the opposition status.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena which won 13 seats in last assembly elections is expected not to reach the double digit figure. Surveys also indicated independents will also be in the range of MNS.
It may be mentioned that SS-BJP contested last look sabha elections together and Anant Geete is continuing as Union Heavy Industries minister in modi cabinet.
