Patel’s birth anniversary celebration coincides with Indira death anniversary mourning
In yet another sign of changing times with the Narendra Modi government in power, the Centre has decided not to commemorate any anniversaries except that of Mahatma Gandhi’s and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s, reported CNN-IBN channel.
The government will be celebrating Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary on October 31 by calling it the National Unity Day. Interestingly, October 31st is also the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and up till last year the Congress-led UPA government used to offer tributes to Indira Gandhi.
While announcing its decision to commemorate Patel’s birth anniversary, Centre had said that this will help people realise the leader’s crucial role in keeping the nation united.
The planned Nehru birth centennary celebrations had sparked a controversy recently when centre decided to keep away Congress president Sonia Gandhi from the organizers list.
