Thiruvananthapuram | Rubbishing suggestions that the CPI(M) state leadership has been soft towards Mani, apparently eying a future realignment, party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan demanded the Minister’s resignation in view of the probe. In a statement, he also wanted the probe to cover the alleged role of Chandy and Excise Minister K Babu in the controversy. VS Achuthanandan, who yesterday wrote to Vigilance on the issue, said only a CBI inquiry would help the truth to be brought out. Earlier Pinarayi Vijayan alleged that political reasons were behind the charges levelled against K M Mani and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was going to benefit from it. He also demanded a comprehensive enquiry into the charges. The opposition had earlier stated that there was corruption in the bar issue. So we are not surprised at the latest development. There are political reasons behind the allegations and Ommen Chandy is the one who is going to benefit from it, Vijayan said. Mani’s party Kerala Congress-M had been pressing to make him CM for some time and the present charge was to block it, Pinarayi alleged. Vijayan demanded that not only this charge, but all corruption charges against the Congress-led UDF government be investigated.
