Kochi | The bar bribe issue that had seen many U turns in state politics today galloped with another controversy when the catholic church pointed its fingers towards state finance minister K.M. Mani and later settled for its own way of damage control.
The bishop of Thamarassery diocese Remejiose Inchananiyil while speaking at a function organised by the church forum KCBC at Kottayam had said in the morning that there was ample reason to believe that the minister might have accepted bribe from the liquour cartel. When eyebrows rose from many quarters over his plain criticism he later resolved to dilute the meaning of his words.
The bishop’s office later issued an official communique explaining the situation. According to the statement, the move by the government to alter the liquor policy provoked the church to get suspicious and any allegation as the minister had received bribe was not an intended point.
