Kochi | Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) will sign an MOU with Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) this week to convert its ground into a stadium of international standards. The Governing Council of KUFOS, chaired by Vice Chancellor Dr B Madhusoodana Kurup, has taken this decision, a varsity press release said.
Under the MoU, the association will fund the entire project to develop the university ground for the purpose of laying turf cricket pitches, improve the grass in the rest of the area and generally do all what is necessary for developing the area for cricket purpose without infringing its environmental importance. The contract is for a period of 25 years.
The association shall permit the public inside the stadium without charging any fee. KCA will undertake the work of fencing, developing and maintaining the demarked area, with the approval of the university. The association will use the stadium exclusively for cricket in the fixed days, giving priority to the university for conducting its sports and athletic meet.
