Thiruvananthapuram | Malayalam cinema will get an extra boost in the ongoing 19th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) through the ‘Film Market’ section. Kerala Chalachitra Academy, the organiser of the week long movie gala, has introduced the Film Market segment with an aim to promote quality Malayalam films globally.
The innovative segment would help identify good Malayalam cinema that has the content and appeal to access international markets and film festivals, academy sources said here. Academy chairman Rajeev Nath said it would help get regional language films a global platform. An expert panel will handpick some movies included in this segment.
The academy will promote them at home and abroad, Nath said. As many as 18 Malayalam movies have been included in this segment this year. An international jury would view these films and make a final selection based on their quality and market potential. The final films named by the jury will be eligible for promotion through the Academy at home and abroad, academy sources added.
