Kochi | Kerala Governor, Justice P Sathasivam today asked Non-Resident Keralites to follow the rules and laws of Union Government and State Government while bringing in money to the state and wisely invest the money in infrastructure projects of the state government. I request the NRKs to follow the rules of the government while sending money. Then only it will be possible to safeguard your money.
The NRKs should also invest their money in various developmental projects of the state, Justice Sathasivam said at the valedictory function of the two-day Global NRK Meet here. He said the meet had evolved as a common and composite platform for the NRKs to discuss and highlight their issues before the authorities.
NORKA has been rendering remarkable services for the welfare of the NRKs. I would personally take up the issues faced by the NRKs with the Union Ministers so that their problems could be solved, he added. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien said MPs from Kerala would take up the issues faced by the NRKs before the Union Government. One of the major issues is the fleecing by airline operators during peak season.
The airline operators, including Air India, collect exorbitant fares from the NRKs during Onam and other peak seasons. A system should be there to check this and we will highlight it before the Civil Aviation Ministry, he added. State NORKA Minister K C Joseph said the meet had come up with seven recommendations which were evolved based on the discussions with the NRKs at the meet.
They include setting up an NRI Commission with quasi-judicial powers for looking into the complaints of NRKs related to their properties and other personal assets in Kerala, certification of skills of NRKs who possess professional work experience but have no educational qualification, a Pravasi education cell to give guidelines to the children of pravasis on opportunities for higher education in Kerala and formation of a special purpose vehicle by NORKA for facilitating investment of NRKs.
