Kozhikode | Kerala Panchayat and Social Justice Minister M K Muneer today inaugurated the renovated Kozhikode Corporation EMS Stadium, slated to conduct football tournament as part of the 35th National Games beginning on January 31.
Addressing the gathering after the inauguration,he said, the work of the renovation which was in a very slow pace initially, was completed before schedule for the smooth conduct of the mega event. He said there were many hindrances during the execution of the Rs 22.5 crore renovation project which was later completed with all round support from all sections of the people.
He said the medical college ground, which is also a venue of the National Games, got official nod for renaming it as Olympian Abdurehman Stadium. The government order for the purpose has been received yesterday, Mr Muneer told the gathering.
Senior Congress leader M K Raghavan, MP, who inaugurated the football ground, sought continued support from all concerned for making the event a grand success.
Presiding over the function,Kozhikode Mayor Prof A K Premjam said large football frezy crowd are expected to turn up at the stadium, where the encounter between different teams are expected to begin on February 1. A Pradeep Kumar, MLA, Purushan Kadalundi, MLA, Kozhikode Collector C A Latha, among others, were present.
