Kochi | Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today reiterated that the government would go ahead with the dream project of ‘sea plane’ soon, as part promoting tourism in the state in big way.
Inaugurating the Bolgatty Event Centre, an initiative by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) at Bolgatty Island, near here, he said the dream project would take on its wings soon, as the process in this regard was on its final stage. Steps were being taken to solve certain issues, which delayed the operation of the most prestigious tourism project of the sate, he added.
Pointing out that the state had good potential in tourism and all possibilities in the area would be exploited maximum, Mr Chandy said that the government would give first priority for the development of tourism, as it would help to create huge job opportunities to the youths.
Claiming that the state had gone far ahead in tourism sector, Mr Chandy recalled the appreciation and keen interest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the recent Chief Ministers Conference at Delhi.
In his Presidential address, Kerala Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar said the government would extend all assistance, including providing more staff to KTDC, as the PSU has started jump into profits from its loss.
In his welcome address KTDC chairman Vijayan Thomas said that during the past one year, the KTDC had achieved tremendous growth, as for the first time in the history of the KTDC it had earned a profit of Rs 15 crore in the last financial year.
The PSU had a loan of Rs 13 crore last year and the company had cleared the loan and even make Rs 15 crore profit after clearing all its dues, he said adding that the KTDC was planning The corporation owned around 30 hotels, including seven premium hotels, eight budget hotels and 13 economy hotels. It also owns over 70 units across the country.
Overlooking the backwaters of Cochin Seaport, the Bolgatty Event Centre was an ideal and exotic venue for conducting Conferences, Conventions, Exhibitions, Wedding receptions and Theme dinners.
The place is also gifted with the greenery of the island. The proximity of Kochi city, Vallarpadam Container Terminal and the Arabian Sea gives an easy access to the Centre.
