Kochi | Terming the revelations of senior Congress leader and former Union Minister of Environment and Forests Jayanti Natarajan as ‘stunning’, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said that she had confirmed the worst fears and the public perception that the Congress party leadership was working as extra-constitutional authorities in  the functioning of the UPA Government and was enjoying power without responsibility.
Claiming that the BJP’s stand had been vindicated, he said in a statement here that ‘we have been saying that extra-constitutional authorities were running the UPA government for the last ten years. Now it is confirmed by the revelations made by Ms Natarajan.’
Pointing out that the senior Congress leader’s statement that she was receiving specific inputs to make her decisions and also she had even listed certain projects too, Mr Naidu asked who gave those directions to her?    Revelations of Ms Natarajan that the Congress Party President and Vice President had directed her ministry on policy and clearances confirmed that extra-constitutional role was played by them, he said, adding ‘there were parallel power centres’.
Stating that the former Minister revealed and confirmed the public perception that extra-constitutional authorities were actually running the Government by giving specific inputs and directives, he asked the Congress leadership to come clean on  all the revelations in this regard.
I used to say – In UPA Government, PM Presides Madam Decides. I am proved right. On one hand the Congress Vice President was projecting himself as the protector of the rights of tribals and on the other he got clearances for corporate houses. In FICCI meeting, the Vice President said that holding up of projects by the environment Ministry had slowed down the economy of the country, he alleged and said Congress must explain the double standards.    Regarding the Congress leaders’ allegation against Ms Natarajan that she was corrupt, the senior BJP leader asked ‘if it was so, why the Congress leadership has not taken action against her? What was the action taken against her when such allegations came to their notice? The Congress party needs to explain. Of course, we cannot find fault with the then PM as  he was helpless!’    ‘If she was so corrupt why there was no inquiry or no action. Were you afraid that she might spill the bean,’ he asked.
Pointing out the disclosures made by Ms Natarajan that the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had complimented her and praised her about the functioning of the Ministry and even told her that he was advised by the Congress leadership to convey that her services were required for the party, he asked how could a person of corrupt nature be entrusted with a party responsibility?.    ‘The revelations that political interferences in the decisions of the Environment Ministry need to be probed. It is particularly important that former Minister said she had sufficient proof for whatever she said,’ he said.
