Thiruvananthapuram | Commonwealth Games silver medalist and hot contestant Ashish Kumar today suffered a set back in the alround category in gymnastic, as he surrendered the gold medal to Rakesh Kumar Putra of services in the 35th National Games which is progressing here today.
In a keenly contested match, the international player had to be satisfied with silver as he managed to score 77.35 points as against the gold medal winner Rakesh Kumar of Services, who walked away with the gold with 78.05 points.
The bronze went in favour of Kerala lad Shinoj, who earned 76.25 points. After the performance, Ashish said he did some mistakes in vault, his favourite item and Pommel Horse, which reduced his points.
The UP lad, however, said gymnastics is the toughest game and we cannot predict. The gymnasts had to perform the items in fraction of seconds. However, each debacle was a lesson to him and in the next time he would rectify it.
