Man from Kerala arrested with counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 1 lakh in Thane

Thane | The Crime Branch of the city police have arrested a 39-year-old man from Kerala and seized 200 counterfeit currency notes of Rs 500 denomination collectively worth Rs one lakh from him.
Acting on a tip off, a Crime Branch sleuths team laid a trap near the Anand Talkies in the eastern part of Thane city and nabbed Johnson Thomas, who had come down to here to dispose off the counterfeit notes, on Tuesday last.  The arrested accused, a painter by profession, originally hailed from Varia Parambil in Paayam of Thaliparamba taluk of Kannur district in Kerala, police said.
An offence under section 489(B) of Indian Penal Code has been registered with the Kopri police station against Johnson.  Johnson was earlier arrested in 2006 in Kerala.  The police in the past four months had seized counterfeit notes worth Rs 4.93 lakh from three places namely Naupada, Shil-Daighar and Kopri areas and arrested five people in this connection, sources added.
