New Delhi | Asserting that the Congress could not be written off in the Delhi assembly polls, AICC general secretary and poll campaign committee head Ajay Maken today expressed confidence that the party would win more than 30 seats in Delhi.
Dismissing the various pre-poll surveys which have given two to seven seats for the Congress, Mr Maken, told a TV channel that Congress could not be written off in Delhi.
You cannot write off the Congress in Delhi. We can easily cross 30 seats, Mr Maken told NDTV in an interview. Refuting the statement by BJP leaders that the top leadership of the Congress was absent from the campaigning, Mr Maken said, I am not a lone warrior. Rahulji is also campaigning.
Mr Maken’s comments came even as political observers in Delhi have said the February 7 elections was a two way race between the Bharatiya Janata party and the Aam Aadmi party. The BJP is the enemy number one of the Congress. However, the AAP is like a bubble, Mr Maken said.
Rejecting speculation that the Congress would support the AAP in the event of a fractured mandate, Mr Maken said his party would not support the AAP. The party’s line is that under no circumstances will we take the support of AAP. In fact, AAP has sent us feelers to support them to form the government before the elections. However, we refused, Mr Maken said.
Describing Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as the binding factors of the Congress, Mr Maken said,Gandhis are the binding factors of the party. Rahul Gandhi binds all the leaders of the Congress.
Asked to comment on the view that he (Maken) is the ‘right person in the wrong party’, Mr Maken said,I am the right man in the right party. I have got so much from the Congress at this age.
