New Delhi | The Aam Aadmi Party today rejected Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari’s support to the party for Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for tomorrow.
We have always been against communal politics. We are here to work for ‘Aam Aadmi’ be it Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian. We maintain our stand against communal politics, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said addressing a press conference here.
We do not need Imam Bukhari’s support. The AAP doesn’t identify with his ideology. Imam Bukhari has been lending his support to many parties in past. The AAP is the first ever party in the history of country who is coming out in open rejecting his support, Mr Singh said.
Strictly rejecting Mr Bukhari’s support to the AAP, party spokesperson Ashish Khetan said, The AAP has always worked for the common people of the country, keeping aside their religion. We as a party totally reject support from a person like Imam Bukhari who invited many Indian and foreign leaders in anointment ceremony of his successor, but not our Prime Minister.
Earlier in the day, Mr Bukhari had appealed to the people of Delhi, particularly Muslims, to support the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in the Assembly elections.
