Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala swimmer Sajan Prakash claimed his sixth gold and Tripura gymnast Dipa Karmakar her fifth yellow metal on the sixth day today as defending champions Services continued their march to retain the title in the 35th National Games.
Services got 38 gold, eleven silver and 12 bronze.
It was neck-to-neck race for the second spot, with Maharashtra and Haryana claiming 25 gold each. While Maharashtra also won 29 silver and 20 bronze, Haryana got 13 silver and six bronze. Hosts Kerala was in the fourth position with 14 golds, 12 silver and 18 bronze.
Six more meet records were sunk on the penultimate day of aquatic events. While Sajan Prakash set yet another meet record in 400 M freestyle swimming, Services’ P S Madhu set a new national record in the 50 M Backstroke event.
Maharasthra, which finished fourth in the last edition, picking up 26 medals, including ten gold from the pool, to reach the second place. Though their gymnasts could not shine well in this edition, its sharp shooters also contributed well shooting out nine medals, including six gold in the shooting range.
Thanks to their muscle power, Haryana, which finished third in the last edition, claimed a total of 44 medals that included 18 gold medals in wrestling events.
