Kozhikode | A ministerial team led by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today visited riot-hit Thuneri near politically sensitive Nadapuram in Kozhikode district of Kerala today.
Talking to reporters after the visit this morning, Mr Chandy said a committee headed by Panchayat and Social Justice Minister M K Muneer would decide on the compensation to victims of widespread riots that ensued the recent killing of Democratic Youth Federation of India activist Shybin at Thuneri.
Stating the compensation would be disbursed as soon as possible, he said the committee had been asked to submit its report in two weeks.
He said the government would order a probe into alleged inaction by the police to contain violence in the trouble torn area.
Mr Chandy, who visited the house of deceased Shybin, handed over a cheque for Rs 2.5 million as solatium to his family.
