It’s a breeze for Kerala in Basket Ball

Kannur | Hosts Kerala won easily in men and women section of the  pool A basketball matches in 35th National Games held at Kannur.    In the men section, Kerala beat Chattisgarh by 79-57 points  in Pool A while in women Kerala beat Andhra Pradesh by 88-39 points in Pool A.
Inspirational Kerala captain Subash J Shenoy’s  overall performance in defence and offence wing helped hosts to a easy victory in the inaugural match of the National Games at court number 1.
In fact, he was the top scorer for Kerala with 14 points, while  Ajeet Sugunanan netted 12 and Robin S ,Basil Philip and Ashin Xavier scored 11 points each.
Tamilnadu(TN)upset current senior national basket ball champions Uttarakhand in a thrilling encounter in men  pool  A match,while in women section also TN upset senior national women basket ball champions Chattisgarh by 67-56 at Kannur in the 35 th National games.Keralite led Vinneth Ravi ‘s Tamil nadu team took revenge on Uttrakhand,who beat the senior national finals two months back in Rajasthan.
Mr Vineeth Ravi told UNI that majority of Tamil Nadu (TN)players are Under 23 and represent for Indain Over Seas Bank (IOB),while  Uttarkhand players are experienced international players  and playing for ONGC.He also said by the form display by two teams today it seems this as a dress rehearsal before the National games finals in Basketball.    For TN,Prasana Venka scored 15 points while Pratham Singh netted 13 and Aravind and Siva Balan scored 12 points each  and Amjoyt Singh scored 9 points.
For Uttarakhand  Yadwinder singh scored 17 and followed Vishesh B (11) and Arjun Singh (10).The points at first twenty minutes TN  were leading by  19-12,29-23 but in thirty-minutes Uttarkhand was leading by 47-40.At the last ten minutes,TN fought back brilliantly minutes and ended as winners at 66-60 points.    In Women pool A match,TN beat Chattisgarh by 67-52.For TN Priyadarshini Raja scored 28 points as well as she defended well and never allowed seven footer Poonam Chaturvedi to score freely.    For TN ,Mozhi Alagu Tamil netted 11 points and captain Anitha P scored 10 while  Anju Lakra and Sharanjeet Kaur scored 14 points each and captain Seema Singh netted 11 points.
In the women pool  B match, Maharashtra beat Karnataka by 72-51 points. For Maharashtra Kenny Susan scored 21 and followed by Sruthi (13), Renu  and Ranjeeta (11 ) points each. For Karnataka, Navaneeta scored 16 points, captain Savitha netted (11) and Roshmi scored (10). At half time the score was  30-27.    In pool B last match of the day for men, Punjab beat Haryana in a closely fought match by 89-82 points. For Punjab Harmandeep Singh scored 23 , Amritpal singh netted 22 and Gurvinder Singh (17) ,while Haryana’s Vikas scored 22 points  and Deepak Rathe (18),Himanshu Sharma (16) and Somvir (14) netted for losers.
In tomorrow in men’s section  Chattisgarh v/s Tamilnadu, Uttarakhand v/s Kerala in pool A and Haryana v/s Services and Karnataka v/s Punjab in pool B. In women section,  Chattisgarh v/S Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu v/s Kerala in Pool A and Karnataka v/s Delhi and Punjab v/s Maharashtra in pool B,will face each other.
