Thiruvananthapuram | Middle and long distance player and Asian Games medalist O P Jaisha of Kerala and Army runner G Lakshmanan today set new meet records in 5,000 M women and men event respectively even as Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) continued their dominance in the 35th National Games. Services started started their medal hunt after a days rest by adding eight more yellow metals to their kitty to make it 50 after 231 events completed today. Proving that they were the ultimate in the sports arena, the services maintained their lead to consolidate their position with 81 medals, including 50 gold and 16 silver as on date. However, Maharastra, who is behind the military men, take up their total to 95 medals, including 27 gold and 39 silver, followed by Haryana with 52 medals, including 27 gold. Hosts Kerala continued their fourth position with 58 medals, studded with 17 gold medals. The taking of athletics events for Kerala was not bad, as their long distance runner Jaisha bagged first gold for the state in the 5000 m race, that too with registering a meet record. However, in the mens 5000 m run, Kerala boys disappointed as they could be able to finish in the 12th position.
In the girls high jump also, there was no good news for the hosts, as its jumpers could be able to finish in the fourth, while Karnatka girl Shana Kumar won the the gold. But in fencing Kerala girl Dilna VP give a smile to her state bagging the told in Fencing. The silver in this category went to Kabitha Devi of Assam and Setefitha chalill won the bronze for kerala.
